Summer Solstice Decluttering

The Summer Solstice is a powerful and symbolic time of year. Since it’s the longest day and shortest night of the year, many people feel increased motivation, vitality, and creativity. All the daylight shining represents clarity, growth, and fullness. It’s a natural time of year to illuminate what’s working and releasing what’s not working. Nature is in full bloom, so you’ll see lots of plants and gardens thriving. This external abundance and beauty mirrors your own potential for productivity and manifestation. For this year’s Summer Solstice blog post, I’m going give you tips to make this year’s Solstice even more magical than ever before.
- Raise your vibe. Do something that brings you joy and makes you feel good. It could be as simple as doing a meditation, taking a bath, doing some artwork, listening to some good music, laughing with a friend, or cuddling with a pet. Stress and grumpiness repel good things. Joy attracts them. Be cognizant of your thoughts, and whenever you notice yourself focusing on something negative or getting stressed out over little things, see if you can steer yourself towards more joy. Even just inviting yourself to smile will lighten your mood drastically.
- Do an energetic space cleaning. There is a specific method I was trained to do that works really well for me and my clients, but even something as simple as opening a window, lighting a candle, burning incense, diffusing essential oils, saying a prayer, using sound, or a variety of other techniques can be used to help purify the space. Whether it’s real or the placebo effect, I always notice a difference!
- Declutter with intention. Whether you have the time and energy to go through your whole house to do a thorough decluttering, or you make a gesture towards lightening your load, your actions will carry more energetic punch than at other times of the year. Here are some ideas:
-Let the light in. Open all your curtains and blinds, and remove things that are blocking natural light. Clean your windows and windowsills. Ask yourself “what am I ready to let go of so that more light can enter my life?”
-Clear your fire element. You could try tuning in to things that are colored red, things that are related to fire (like candles, summertime gear, or grilling), or anything that makes you feel too hot (blankets/sweaters that are too heavy, etc). You could also look for items that make you feel dull or hide your beauty and magnificence. Donate/purge anything that you no longer need.
-Do an outdoor reset. Clean and declutter your porch, backyard storage, or patio furniture.
-Use sunlight to help purify. Wash large items (trash cans, bedding, rugs, yoga mats, etc) and lay them out in the sun to dry.
-Rotate seasonal clothes and accessories. Fix or discard anything broken, and donate what you no longer need.
-Look for energetically light and heavy items in your home. Release a few items that weigh you down so that you can feature the items that lift you up more prominently.
-Look for areas that feel in bloom in your home. Hone in on an area of your home that makes you feel really happy. How can you fertilize this area so it blooms even brighter?
- Reflect. Since the days will start to get shorter after the Solstice, it’s a great time to reflect on all that you’ve achieved, celebrate your progress, and to think about what you want for the second half of the year. This is an ideal time to realign with your goals, adjust your course, and let go of energetic clutter.
- Do an intention setting ritual. The solstice is connected to the fire element, which symbolizes energy, passion, purification, and release. Many cultures use fire ceremonies to burn away the old and welcome the new. So naturally, the Summer Solstice is a time for transformation and setting powerful intentions. Spiritually, many people see the solstice as a time when intentions that get set are magnified. It’s a wonderful time for visioning, meditation, clarity, and intentional release.
What will you be doing this year to celebrate the solstice this year?
