Paleo Recipe: Cheesy Crackers

A few times a year, I like to do strict Whole 30 or paleo diet to reset my brain and body. I find that a paleo diet works extremely well for my physical and mental health. When I eat foods that truly nourish my body, I have so much more sustained energy, and I have an easier time focusing. One of the other things I like about doing a paleo diet is that it encourages me to get much more creative in the kitchen. I realize how much delicious food can come from using very basic ingredients.
A Whole 30 and paleo diet consists of nutrient dense healthy meat, vegetables, fruit, nuts/seeds, eggs, and healthy oils. It eliminates grains, dairy, legumes, refined sugar, and alcohol. There are slight differences between the Whole 30 and paleo diet. Whole 30 allows white potatoes and paleo doesn’t. Whole 30 does not allow for natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup, but paleo does. But the big difference is that a true Whole 30 diet does not allow for “baked goods” that mimic non-paleo foods like muffins, cookies, and crackers. So this recipe falls into the paleo category. Paleo treats like this feel indulgent, but avoid the highly refined ingredients that weigh us down and cause a crash like traditional baked goods. If you’ve never done a Whole 30 or paleo diet, I recommend reading this book. The first time I did the Whole 30 was in January of 2020, and it totally changed my life!
What does this have to do with organizing??
By choosing nourishing foods to fuel your body, you will be setting yourself up for success. You’ll have more energy for the day, and your brain will feel more clear. But in my opinion, the even bigger benefit is the effect on self-esteem. You will feel more confident and radiant, which will help you make better decisions on how to spend your time and what to do with your stuff. You may feel like you naturally feel more inspired and capable of getting organized.
I hope this recipe inspires you to see paleo cooking as doable and fun. Try it out, and let me know what you think!
Paleo “Cheesy” Crackers
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond flour
- 3 tbsp tapioca flour (helps with crunch/chew)
- 3 tbsp nutritional yeast (for cheesy flavor)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional, adds depth)
- ½ tsp sea salt
- 1 egg (or 1 tbsp ground flax + 2.5 tbsp water for vegan option)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or avocado oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix almond flour, tapioca flour, nutritional yeast, spices, and salt.
- Stir in the egg and oil until it forms a dough. If sticky, chill for 10 minutes.
- Roll the dough thin between two sheets of parchment (⅛ inch or less).
- Use a knife or pizza cutter to slice into squares (or use small cookie cutters).
- Transfer parchment with dough onto the baking sheet.
- Bake 12–15 minutes, until edges are golden and crispy.
- Let cool completely—they’ll crisp up more as they cool.
Optional Add-ins for Extra Flavor
- Sprinkle with extra nutritional yeast on top before baking.
- Add dried herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano) for a “cheesy herb” flavor.
- Use chili powder or cayenne for a spicy kick.
